Most stores sell plain mass-produced cookware and bake ware; our hand-painted oven-to-table clay cookware items will be a joy for your eyes as well as your palate. Our goal is to bring you the very finest professionally hand-made small productions of kitchen products.
Beware of cheap similar potteries you may find elsewhere, often with flashy colors, they are mechanically molded in low cost labor countries or made with cheap imported clay from Eastern Europe. We only sell the best quality, guaranteed hand-made and hand-painted in France, with French clay and each part is stamped with the manufacturer's name.
Our clay cookware and bake ware can be used on the stove with a heat diffuser only but they are best used in the oven. They are microware oven and dishwasher safe.
ClayBourg International, LLC also hosts an art gallery with original work of art and limited edition art-deco items from French artists. We ship them directly from the artist or the art gallery in France where they are displayed, please visit our Art Gallery for more information.
The manufacturing process: Tradition and passion
It is the marriage of earth, water, fire and the labor of master potters that creates these unalterable and unique culinary decorated potteries.
The raw material, clay, is extracted from a loam pit nearby the potters’ village in Eastern France. This clay has been used for the manufacturing of culinary potteries for over 1000 years as it is waterproof and easy to shape when mixed with water.
Once the clay is placed on the potter wheel, it is manually transformed into the desire shape by expert craftsmen; skills and talent are often transmitted from father to son.
The pieces are then decorated with traditional designs by hand with a “barolet” equipped with a goose feather, an atypical object containing the colored liquid. To protect and seal the potteries, they are glazed and finally high-fired in an oven that reaches about 2000 degrees Fahrenheit.
The result: Beautiful culinary potteries with refractory properties that will provide even cooking throughout the food and transmit incomparable odors and flavors to simple or elaborate meals, greatly enhancing its taste.
